'THIRST PRIZE', INSTALLATION VIEW, CHANGING ROOM GALLERY, SOHO
Corbin Shaw and Celeste McEvoy created installation works which were exhibited beside each other recreating the space and conversations held during their duo residency.
Thirst Prize investigates ideas of masculinity and performed identity, alongside memory, alcohol and family relationships.
Celeste McEvoy’s installation consists primarily of ceramic sculpture displayed alongside printed
white porcelain mugs, plastic bottle crates, cardboard boxes and carpet. The work explores
taste, wealth, cultural capital, social mobility, desire for assimilation and the performance of
masculinity. This installation focuses on the family/domestic setting in which these themes
evolve. It draws from McEvoy’s own memory of their parent’s desire for change in their financial
circumstances by proxy V socioeconomic context.
